Wix is a cloud-based website builder, like so many others, that offers a bunch of tools and unique features that make it easy for basically anyone to build a website.
With a drag-and-drop editor and plenty of templates, it is remarkably easy to build and customize a website through Wix. Wix is also free, which is also attractive to potential users.
But you want your website to get found, you don’t just want it to be easy to edit. For that, you need search engine optimization, and with that said, there are a lot of questions out there regarding Wix and SEO, so we asked a Wix SEO company, 1DigitalⓇ Agency, some of the most popular ones.
Here’s what they had to say.
Is Wix Good for SEO Strategies?
There are no websites that are inherently good or bad for SEO, but as things go, the fact that Wix can be easily customized and optimized makes it good for digital marketing in general. It isn’t as easy to build or customize a website on Wix as it is, for example, on WordPress, but a capable SEO marketer can still make all of the optimizations needed to get the website to show up in the search engine results pages (SERPs).
Is SEO Built Into Wix?
SEO is not built into any website, let alone Wix. With that said, there are several tools that are built into the platform that make it somewhat easier to optimize. There are special tools that you can use that are built into Wix, though, like SEO Wiz (see below).
How Do You Do SEO with Wix?
You “do” SEO with Wix the same as you would with literally any other platform. All the other best practices still apply here. You want to create a fast, secure website with logical structure, eliminate technical errors, and optimize category and product pages with target keywords in headers, metadata, page copy, and internal links. Doing so will increase your online presence through favorable organic searches, and can be tracked through Google Analytics and Google Search Console, which are not exclusive to any platform.
Is Wix SEO Wiz Free?
Wix is compatible with a built-in SEO tools called SEO Wiz that offers step-by-step instructions on how to optimize a website. It also offers a variety of tutorials and comes with tracking capabilities, which makes it even more powerful. It’s not as good as having a Wix SEO company looking out for you but it’s a close second.
Do Wix Sites Show Up on Google?
Yes, Wix sites, just like those built on any other platform, show up on Google. It is not the platform or website builder that determines if a website will show up in the search results or not, but how well optimized it is and how functional and usable the website is.
Are There Any Downsides of Wix?
While Wix is free, it’s definitely associated with several considerable drawbacks. Two of the biggest are that it’s very difficult if not impossible to transfer a Wix website to another host; if you do you may need to rebuild the website entirely. The other is that Wix offers free hosting that’s shared with other websites which can lead to slow page load times.
Other users have commented that Wix offers only limited customization features, and that for large eCommerce companies, managing inventory, products and payment channels can become difficult.
For larger ventures, a paid SaaS platform like Shopify or BigCommerce is likely better.
When Do I Hire a Wix SEO Company?
It makes sense to hire a Wix SEO company when one of two conditions applies: if you are in over your head and don’t know what you’re doing, or you don’t have enough time in the day to manage an SEO campaign, even if you do know what you’re doing.
Being aware of your limited abilities as an entrepreneur is half the battle. Recognizing you need the help of an SEO company can help.
